Bioenergy is renewable energy fueled by biological sources. Expanding use of bioenergy as a substitute for fossil fuels can benefit both local economies and the environment.
Bioenergy represents a growing share of the United States' renewable energy supply. The Midwest is rich with the biomass resources needed to produce bioenergy and the Energy Center's researchers are helping tap those resources.

Our research team provides businesses, utilities, government agencies and others with objective research on bioenergy. We study opportunity fuels, residues, production byproducts and crops and assess their availability to help users develop secure supply plans for bioenergy generation. While we've cut our teeth on bioenergy research in the Midwest, our expertise is applicable throughout the United States.
