Gary Klein discusses tank vs. tankless and gas vs. electric water heaters. Why should you care? Hot water is typically the first or second largest use of energy in homes.

Overview

This session will address single-family hot water distribution patterns and practices, discuss ways to think about hot water system efficiency, and characterize types of hot water heaters in both retrofit and new construction. Hear the pros and cons of tank and tankless water heaters.

  • Identify various water heating technologies.
  • Describe the most water and energy efficient residential hot water systems.

This webcast will take approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. Once you have completed the course and passed a 14 question quiz, members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) will earn 1.5 Learning Units (HSW/SD). The Wisconsin Department of Commerce will award 1.5 hours of credit for the following: Dwelling Contractor Qualifier Certification, Journeyman Plumber Certification, Master Plumber Certification, UDC-Construction Inspector Certification, and UDC-Plumbing Inspector Certification. This course has been approved at the 200 level by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) for 1.5 Continuing Education Units as part of the GBCI Credentialing Maintenance program.
