Condensing Boilers

welcome

Length: 63 minutes

Tom Durkin discusses applications, costs and pay-backs for low temperature condensing style boilers for hydronic heating in commercial and institutional buildings.

Overview

This program presents an analysis of the costs and benefits of low temperature condensing boilers compared to conventional, high temperature boilers. It explores how boilers are tested and rated versus how they operate in the real world. Tom's analysis shows that low temperature heating systems using condensing boilers are significantly less expensive to operate, are safer than conventional hot water or steam boilers and have a short pay-back period.

Learner Objectives

As a result of this training you will be able to:

  • Recognize the impact of heating systems on the operating cost of a building, and how it has changed in recent years
  • Discover the various boiler types, and the usual methods of calculating the efficiency, and the short comings of the usual testing methods
  • Determine the economic implications of the various boiler types, both first cost and operating cost
  • Recognize the "new standard" for boilers, and the other benefits in addition to lowered heating bills
