Advanced Air Sealing and IAQ Issues

welcome

Learn the building science skills and techniques you need to build and retrofit energy efficient homes. As a result of attending this training, participants will understand the importance of performance testing and building science techniques, recognize that a house works as a system and attain measurable performance change in their construction practices.

Overall Objective

The payoff in air sealing single family homes is reduced energy costs. This advanced session will provide you with priorities for air sealing in existing homes. You will learn why air sealing needs to be part of the approach builders and remodelers use to address moisture, indoor air quality and combustion safety concerns. You will also learn about energy savings and environmental or IAQ opportunities through air sealing. Proper use of diagnostic equipment can uncover problem areas and identify ways to alleviate these problems.

After THIS TRAINING YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

  • Explain how heat, air and moisture flow through a house.
  • Demonstrate the importance of separating the crawl space from the living area.
  • Illustrate how and when to condition an attic.
  • Show how air leakage affects thermal building performance.
  • Maximize air barriers for thermal building performance.
  • Analyze how a building's performance affects health.
  • Anticipate building tightness level and ventilation requirements.
  • Identify practical ideas, techniques and products that you can use on your next job.

Who Should Attend?

Builders, remodelers, contractors, code officials, weatherization contractors and building performance consultants
