The Oneida Nation has long subscribed to an ethic of protecting and preserving the environment. Their new Community Center embodies those beliefs by incorporating solar energy system and high efficiency building technologies.
The PV system is one of the first in Wisconsin to use modules that are adhered onto standing seam roofing panels at the job site. The field-applied modules alleviate the high transportation costs (and limited size and color options) associated with purchasing roofing panels with pre-attached PV modules. The modules are available in 9 or 18 foot lengths from UniSolar.
Energy efficiency is just as important as renewable energy at the Community Center. The building includes energy efficient features such as:
- R-38 insulation levels
- high efficiency heating and cooling systems
- earth-bermed walls
- cool daylighting
- passive solar heating
- double airlock vestibule
Interested individuals may view the Community Center, which is located on the Oneida Nation property southwest of Green Bay. The Oneida Nation reminds visitors to respect any group that may be using the building.
