Sun Powered Electric (SPE) is a nonprofit PV independent power producer.
SPE has developed a strategy and prototype PV plant that can be repeated
across the US as green-power markets open. By the fall of 1999 SPE
had installed four similar power plants.
An inexpensive mounting system allows the systems to be quickly installed
and removed from commercial rooftops. The light-weight mounting system
allows installation on large flat-roofed buildings without expensive structural
augmentation of the roof supports.
Project Funding
- The system's output is sold at green-power rates to Green Mountain
Energy.
- Virginia Alliance for Solar Electricity (VASE) provided co-funding.
- BJ's Wholesale Club provides the site free of charge.
- Private citizens to make donations to Solar Electric Power.
Project Partners
- SPE is a nonprofit
division of Conservation Services Group of Westborough.
- BJ's Wholesale Club is a
membership-based retail chain.
- Green Mountain Energy
is the leading marketer of green power in the US.
- VASE is a mid-Atlantic alliance whose goal is to promote Solarex's
Millennia modules. The VASE partnership was awarded U.S Department of Energy
funding.
