| News $40,000 Available to Fund Solar Energy Systems in Wisconsin MADISON, Wis. (December 2000)The Wisconsin Solar Use Network (WisconSUN™) will provide up to $40,000 in 2001 to co-fund Wisconsin-based solar energy installations. Half of the funds target truly building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems. (WisconSUN defines BIPV systems as those that are also an element of a building's shell.) The remaining funds will be available to support other photovoltaic (PV) systems, and active solar thermal systems. All PV systems must be grid connected. Eligible recipients include Wisconsin commercial and industrial businesses, non-profit organizations, institutions, municipal, state and tribal governments, and homeowners. Prospective system owners are encouraged to submit their proposal by April 2nd 2001. Application materials are available at the WisconSUN website (http://www.ecw.org/wisconsun). Solar energy installations funded by WisconSUN will tend to be highly visible and replicable; have stakeholder support; provide community education opportunities; and use innovative implementation and financing strategies. WisconSUN is particularly interested in funding PV systems that are owned and operated by for-profit organizations and homeowners. In the last two years WisconSUN has committed almost $80,000 for 12 solar energy systems located on buildings including schools, nature centers, a church, a union hall, a community center, a home, a law office, a solar energy system dealer, and a non-profit's headquarters. WisconSUN's goals are to increase the number of effective solar energy systems by providing assistance to prospective system owners and supporting Wisconsin's commercial solar energy service and technology providers. WisconSUN was created by the Energy Center of Wisconsina private nonprofit organization dedicated to improving energy efficiency in Wisconsin. WisconSUN is co-funded by the U.S. DOE Million Solar Roofs program and the State of Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program. For application materials or more information about WisconSUN contact the WisconSUN director, Niels Wolter, 7507 Hubbard Avenue, Suite 200, Middleton, WI 53562; phone 608.831.1127, ext. 308, Wolter@MSBnrg.com, or www.wisconsun.org. WisconSUN is managed by MSB Energy Associates Inc. of Middleton WI. |
